AIB has apologised after letters were sent to customers informing them of larger-than-expected increases to their mortgage repayments from October.
It was related to some tracker loans transferred from Ulster Bank, which appeared to have been miscalculated and would have led to some paying up to an additional 600 euro.
An AIB spokesperson says affected customers don't have to take any action, and they will engage with them to take "corrective action".
Personal Finance Editor with the Irish Independent, Charlie Weston, outlines what some customers have experienced:
"In some cases, the extra repayments every month are as high as €600."
"It's a lot lower in other cases but people are just taken aback that they'd get a letter out of the blue telling them that it seems that Ulster Bank miscalculated their repayments and they have to take the hit here."
"There's no discussion about options or other ways of dealing with this."
