The Green Party leader says the agricultural sector has huge green energy potential
Irish farmers could lead the way in solar panel use in the country.
That's the message from the Green Party leader who says the huge energy demands of farming could be solved by solar.
The Green Party plan to bring to cabinet the removal of VAT off solar panels in order to make the renewable energy more affordable.
Minister for Transport, Climate and Environment, Eamon Ryan, says the agricultural sector has huge green energy potential:
"There are about 50 thousand households already who have already made the switch, who have already put panels on their roof because of the high price of gas and the high price of electricity, people can see the sense of it. So we want that to expand, but we also want businesses, we want all those warehouse roofs, factory roofs, we want farmers. Particularly farmers, I think there's huge potential because a lot of dairy farms for example they've got a big demand for electricity. They've got to cool their milk and pump all of their milking machines."
