Foreign governments, including Ireland are struggling to get thousands of people out of the north-east African country.
The Junior Defence Minister says the three day ceasefire in Sudan will make a big impact in getting 100 Irish citizens out of the country.
Over 400 people have been killed and thousands injured this month, while food, clean water and medicine supplies deteriorate on the ground.
The UN Security Council will meet later to discuss the conflict.
Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Sean Flemming, says if the ceasefire holds, more people will be encouraged to evacuate:
'Some people understandably might be nervous at heading off on a bus protected by military forces from EU countries when they have to make a reasonable journey from where they live, to get to this military airport, so hopefully the pressure will ease and the Irish people who might have been nervous about leaving home will be happy to do so once this cease fire holds.'
