A pedestrian has been killed in a crash in Offaly

A pedestrian has been killed in a crash in Offaly.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a pedestrian and a car outside Moate in the early hours of this morning.

The man, in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene on the R446 at Marshbrook, along the Westmeath/Offaly border, shortly before 2 o'clock this morning.

The pedestrian died from his injuries at the scene.

The occupants of the car received medical attention, but were not seriously injured.

The road is currently closed, and the scene has been preserved for a technical examination.

Local diversions are in place.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this collision to come forward.

They are also appealing to any motorists with camera footage (including dashcam), who were travelling on the R446 between Moate and Horseleap at the time of the collision, to make it available to them.
