A man in his 30s has been arrested following the discovery of a woman's body in Sligo.

The woman's body was discovered at a home in Sligo town shortly after 8.30pm last Monday evening.

A post-mortem was conducted, the results of which Gardaí say are not being disclosed for operational reasons.

This morning, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He's been taken to a garda station in the North Western Region, where he can be held for up to 24 hours, after which he must be charged or released.

Investigations are ongoing, with Gardaí appealing to anyone with information in relation to the incident to contact Sligo Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
