A man in his 60s has died following a singe-car collision in County Donegal.

It happened near Burnfoot, close to the Derry border, yesterday evening.

Two people were travelling in the car when it left the road and hit a ditch on the R238 at Tooban near the village Burnfoot at about 4.30 yesterday evening.

A passenger - a woman in her early 60s - escaped uninjured.

However, the driver - a man in his mid-60s - was rushed to Letterkenny University Hospital with serious injuries and later died.

The road remains closed for a forensic examination, and local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Buncrana Garda station on 074 932 0540, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
