Gardaí have called the arrest a ''significant'' step
Key Kinahan crime group figure Liam Byrne has been arrested in Majorca Spain.
The arrest took place yesterday evening as part of the execution of a UK extradition warrant.
Gardaí have called the arrest a '' significant'' step in ''dismantling the operations of the Kinahan Organised Crime Group''.
Security and Crime Editor with the Irish Times, Conor Lally, has the details of the arrest:
"He flew from Dubai to Majorca on the 26th of May, so that's 10 days ago but police believe he planned a family reunion on the island."
He continued, "So, he was arrested on Sunday evening while having that meal with his family and he is in custody on the island on sort of an extradition request from authorities in the UK."
