610 extra places are being provided to train primary school teachers.

The extra courses will be on offer at DCU, Mary Immaculate College, Marino Institute of Education and Maynooth University.

Education Minister Norma Foley says 320 places will be up for grabs this year, with the remaining 290 coming on stream in 2024.

The Department of Education says it's "anticipated that demand for primary teachers over the next number of years will exceed previous expectations."
