Colleges throughout the country are to benefit from a 40 million euro Government grant.

The money can be used to upgrade old buildings making them more energy efficient and help students access laptops and other essential equipment.

The grant is also to allow accessibility for people with disabilities.

Minister for Education Simon Harris says he wants colleges to be inclusive and welcoming.

"I'm delighted today to be announcing 40 million euro for universities and colleges right across the country.

"This is capital funding to do basically four things:

"It's funding that colleges will be able to use to improve their energy efficiency and therefore make their campus more environmentally friendly.

"It's money to make their campus more inclusive in terms for access for people with disabilities.

"The can also use it for ICT to make a digital campus to make sure there is enough computer equipment

"The can also use it for health and safety works that need to be carried out from time to time. "

Minister Harris added: "We're trying to provide funding so that if a college wants to makes itself more energy efficient, wants to upgrade its energy systems, there's money for that.

"We're also though trying to make sure that college campuses are welcoming and inclusive for everybody in society it's a key aim in my department and to do that it requires to make physical adaptations to college campuses."
