4 in 10 people have admitted to re-gifting an unwanted or unused present at Christmas.

New research by 'The Works' shows health and beauty products are the most likely gifts to be passed on to someone else.

Books, candles and jewellery also feature in the top 10.

Irish Examiner columnist Jennifer Sheahan says you have to be careful if opening the present at a party, Sheahan says to be mindful that "if there's people sitting, watching you open your presents and they know what you got, you do have to be very careful there."

Jennifer also feels it's best to avoid regifting personalised items "I would say it's good for a generic item, right so if someone has personalised the robe that they're giving you or they've got initials on your jacket or something like that, obviously don't give, give that away unless you're really confident that it's somebody with the exact same proclivities and they're not going to notice."
