They will get 325 euro a week under the pilot scheme
2,000 people working in the arts sector, including musicians, dancers and writers, have today been granted a basic income.
They were selected from over 8-thousand eligible applicants.
And will get 325 euro a week under the pilot scheme - which will run for 3 years.
It comes as blackouts loom and there are calls to cut energy use - but Minister Catherine Martin says she wants venues to remain open
Arts Minister Catherine Martin says they include people from all art forms, age groups and counties:
"It's a really important research project over the 3 years and we will be assessing the impact on the creativity and output of the well being of our artists."
She believes it's a historical move and a positive outlook on how Ireland view their artists.
