Almost 4,200 bags are currently laying unclaimed at Dublin Airport.

Baggage piled up in Dublin Airport's terminal has become a more common sight for travellers returning home from abroad.

The Oireachtas transport committee was told today as many as 250 bags a day are being lost.

It comes ahead of a busy August Bank Holiday weekend, as 400,000 passengers are expected at terminals.

Dublin Airport says this weekend could be one of the busiest of the year.

The defence forces are on standby to help out if needed.

A representative for the Dublin Airport Authority doesn't expect the army to be deployed this weekend.

It comes as Aer Lingus has come under fire for flight cancellations in recent weeks.

Aer Lingus has made no guarantees that there won't be more flights cancelled this weekend.
