Does your phobia make the top ten list?
A new poll by YouGov has revealed that the most common fear is Acrophobia.
More commonly known as the fear of heights, Acrophobia was ranked the number one fear by 23% of people surveyed in the UK.
The poll also showed females slightly fear heights more than males – 24% to 22% respectively.
It was closely followed by Arachnophobia – the fear of spiders – and Glossophobia, or the fear of speaking in front of others.
Here’s the top 10 list:
- Public Speaking
- Enclosed spaces
- Going to the dentist
The poll revealed also that some people would not go as far as saying they have a fear of some of the things on the list but they would say they’re scared.
Overall, half of the public admitted to being scared of speaking in front of people – with 42% adding that they were afraid of snakes.
Meanwhile, fears decreased with age according to the poll.
Psychologist Kevin Gournay claims this could be because we produces less adrenaline as we get older.
