It’s part of a multi-year effort to make its packaging more environmentally friendly

McDonald’s has begun testing strawless lids in parts of the US

The franchise has introduced the change in an effort to be more environmentally friendly.

The fast-food chain says the lids “help optimize our packaging and eliminate the use of small plastics.”

I know what your thinking – it’ll spill everywhere!

But they have a pullback tab to prevent the drink from splashing out.

And at the moment customers can still request a straw if desired.

McDonald’s set a goal in 2018 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its offices and restaurants by 36% between 2015 and 2030.

In 2021, the chain switched out some of its plastic Happy Meal toys for 3D paper-based toys that customers can put together themselves.
