Sounds about right.

You know the one...

You grab coffee together, you might sit close to each other, you head out on lunch together and most importantly, you have a good rant to them about the boss from time to time.

However, a new study shows that your 'work bestie' is making you less productive in your job.

Dr Sangyoon Park, a professor of economics at the University of Hong Kong, examined worker's productivity at a seafood processing plant in Vietnam, Pretty52 reports. He noted down which workers were pally with each other and how friendly they were with each other outside of the workplace.

He then assigned workers at the plant to different stations. Sometimes he placed them close to their mates and other times, he moved them beside someone they weren't so familiar with.

His study found that the workers were 6% less productive when working beside their friends. However, that was only when they were placed right beside them - workers were slightly more productive when they worked opposite their friends at the stations.

However, if the big bosses are reading, Dr Park also cited past research which suggested that people who have friends at work stay there longer, and are more likely to learn more skills along the way.
