Kenneth Felts has come out as gay in a viral Facebook post.
The Colorado native inspired millions of people worldwide with his efforts to reconnect with his long-lost love. The 90-year-old grandfather said that Covid-19 inspired him to come out.
He started working on a memoir during the lockdown and knew that he couldn't write his story without being honest about who he is.
Kenneth was brought up in a strict religious household in Kansas and explained why he kept quiet saying;
"In 1942 when I was 12, I realised I was gay. If you came out, it really would cost you — your family, your job, all of your relationships."
In an interview with NBC, Kenneth talked about having to hide his sexuality for so long.
"I had been keeping this secret most of my life, and I had planned to take it to the grave".
In his original viral Facebook post, Kenneth spoke about his long-lost-love, Philip.
Sadly Philip passed away a couple of years ago before they could be reunited. However, Kenneth doesn't regret his decision to come out publicly and says he now feels "free".
