It's all to do with temperature.
Everyone has a different routine when it comes to hygeine.
Some shower every morning, some every night, while others mix it up and shower every other day.
And some people have their own skin routine - washing their face daily, using cleaners, etc.
While you should always do what works for your own skin and life, there is apparently one common mistake many of us are guilty of making.
And it involves washing your face in the shower.
Consultant dermatologist, Dr. Justine Hextall, spoke to Women's Health about it and said it's all to do with temperature.
Dr Hextall said that the problem with double-tasking and washing your face in the shower is that the temperature is usually too hot.
Unless you're one of those people who take cold showers...
The hotter the water, the drier it is, meaning it could be stripping your face of essential oils.
Dr Hextall explains, "These oils play an important role in protecting your face against external aggressors via the skin barrier."
There are a few other reasons why you shouldn't wash your face in the shower, such as being in there too long - essentially drying out your skin even more.
So when should you wash your face?
Well, according to Women's Health, a good idea is to take a shower first and and then wash your face over the sink.
This is because the steam from warm water allows pores to enlarge, which means they're better prepped for receiving the skincare you're about to apply.
