There's warnings that close to TWO billion people will be living with obesity by 2035.
Despite various health campaigns, rates continue to rise - turbocharged by the pandemic.
Susie Birney from the Irish Coalition for People Living With Obesity says people affected face both stigma and fears about their health but help is available.
"It's very hard for people to raise the topic of weight with their GP and likewise GP's find it difficult sometimes to talk to their paitents but that converstaion does need to be had.
"Reach out to your GP, if your GP isn't going to listen, reach out to somebody else, go to a different GP because people need treatment and they need to discuss what their options are."
