A great analogy.
To bring us together to beat Covid-19, were being asked to stay apart - that's been the constant message from the Taoiseach and senior officials amid the spread of the virus.
Social distancing means all non-essential travel is banned, avoiding gatherings of people that aren’t in your household, and we must keep at least two-metres away from strangers when we are outside.
It's not easy, especially with a bank holiday to look forward too - but it works.
And one video from the Ohio Department of Health has perfectly demonstrated why social distancing is important in reducing the transmission of infections.
In the video, rows of ping pong balls are balanced on traps.
When one ping pong ball hits another, all of the rows are disrupted. But when the traps have a sufficient amount of distance between them, the ping pong ball doesn’t affect any of the others – it just bounces away.

Before a vaccine is developed, social distancing remains the most effective way to combat the coronavirus.
So the more we keep our distance, the quicker we can come back together.
