Almost 4 in 10 of us hide our true selves in the workplace.
New research from recruitment agency Hays has found 37% of employees don't feel comfortable expressing their 'authentic self' in the workplace.
While almost half have felt their chances of career progression have been limited because of their background.
Age, nationality, gender and gender identity are among the top concerns.
Also, over half of people surveyed felt age could impact their likelihood of being chosen for a job.
Managing Director of Hays Ireland, Maureen Lynch says it pays to allow employees to be themselves:
"We know from research that organisations where they have an environment where you can be authentic, you're authentic self are much more successful as organisations because you're allowing people to communicate more freely, share ideas more freely and then as a result then organisations are more successful.
