Old habits die hard...

Anyone who has been a smoker during their lifetime will tell you that it is one of the most difficult habits to break, but you'd imagine that there must be a point where enough is enough!

Well, it's not always that simple.

A study recently carried out in Ireland on the willpower of smokers to give up cigarettes has revealed fairly shocking results.

Astonishingly, almost half of heart attack survivors in Ireland who smoked beforehand are still smoking!

According to new research, the number of those continuing behaviours that increase the risk of a second heart attack is significantly high.

It's not just smokers who are struggling to change their habits post heart attack, overweight heart attack survivors are also finding it difficult to change their lifestyle. Two in five survivors remain obese up to two years later and around 31 percent don't take part in regular activity.

The study was carried out by iAspire and included 721 patients from nine hospitals across the country.
