They say its unfair to ask non-smokers to share outdoor spaces with smokers.
It's unfair to ask non-smokers to share outdoor spaces in bars in order to comply with social distancing, according to the Royal College of Physicians, which has written to the Health Minister on the matter.
They're calling for outdoor areas to become smoke-free once bars reopen and have to apply social distancing rules.
Professor Des Cox from the RCPI's Policy Advisory group on Tobacco thinks non-smokers shouldn't have to occupy the same spaces.
''People do need to be aware that second hand smoke is a danger, and we don;t want to put people in harms way'', she said.
''There is a future with a lot of unknowns but for the moment we're recommending to maintain social distancing these areas should become non-smoking zones''.
