But when you take into account the cumulative cost of flights, accommodation and spending money, a lot of people are put off jetting overseas and opt for a 'staycation'.
But a trip over the ocean doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg... And with this in mind, Skyscanner has just revealed it's top destinations to fly for a cheapish getaway in 2020.
Sam Ayles from the flight booking told the Evening Standard: “When looking back over our data we found a number of cities which are seeing phenomenal price drops, with Bratislava leading the way with a staggering 71 per cent drop in average flight prices, that’s a saving of over £1,200 for a family of four.”

Bratislava, Slovakia
According to the Evening Standard slights to Bratislava have dropped a whopping 71 per cent, and January is the best time to take advantage.
Eindhoven, Netherlands
Flights to Eindhoven have dropped 62 per cent in price and again January is the best time to take advantage.
Jersey, United Kingdom
A 48 per cent drop in the price of flights to Jersey and January, April, May, September and October are the best months to fly.
Tenerife, Spain
A trip to Tenerife has dropped 44 per cent in price and January is the best time to fly (there's definitely a theme here).
Malaga, Spain
Similar to Tenerife a flight to Malaga is down 44 per cent and January, April or October is when you should jet off.
Düsseldorf, Germany
Germany is always great craic and the cost of a flight to Düsseldorf has dropped 43 per cent for 2020. With February the best time to take advantage.
Wroclaw, Poland
Poland is a gem of a country and a trip to the stunning Wroclaw has gone down 42 per cent for flights in January.
Split, Croatia
If you fancy some Croatian sun you can save 42 per cent if you fly in October 2020.
Frankfurt, Germany
Frankfurt is a world class destination and you'll save 40 per cent on a flight if you travel in January.
