A man has revealed he was horrified to find out his girlfriend's showering habits.

The man explained in a Reddit thread that he had been with his girlfriend for a few years but had only recently moved in with her.

He said his partner doesn't shower regularly and that it's starting to become an issue, The Sun reports.

He wrote:

"I love her, but I did NOT know what I was getting into. She doesn’t shower frequently. At all. She showers at max once every other week".

He added that:

"Before we moved in together I didn’t notice any particular BAD smell. Occasionally she had BO which is human. I’m guessing she would take her occasional shower before seeing me?"

He stated that after a while, he had to intervene:

"After a few months of trying to live with it, I was fed up. I had been sleeping on the couch because the smell was so terrible. I sat her down and tried to have a serious conversation about it,".

He explained that he tried to approach her about it gently. However, she was angry about his suggestion that she should shower more. According to the Reddit thread, she told him it was "none of his business" and started crying.

He said he now feels terrible and asked Reddit for advice on what to do next.

There was a mixed reaction to his post with one saying:

"That’s nasty. She should be showering at least every other day. Maybe not washing hair depending on the person but she should at least be washing her body every other day if not daily."

Others though pointed out that there may be other reasons why she's not showering.

One user explained:

"I'm bipolar and during my bouts of depression, I have a hard time doing simple things like showering or brushing my teeth. (Which is hard to explain, because getting clean always makes me feel better when I'm depressed, and I hate feeling dirty...but that doesn't stop it. I've gone weeks without a shower at my worst point, and I've had many cavities filled)."
