One in four Irish homes now have a source of renewable energy.
A new energy census has revealed that counties Cavan and Monaghan at 75 per cent, have the highest rate of oil-fired central heatingin the country.

Counties Donegal and Wexford at one per cent, have the lowest use of natural gas in Ireland.
Craughwell in Co. Galway and Dunshaughlin in Co. Meath have the highest proportion of households with solar-driven homes, with almost one in four houses having solar electric panels:
"Newer houses tend to have much higher levels of energy efficiency and this includes everything from high levels of insulation to other renewable sources of energy in the home."
He continued, "So, the legislation is certainly paying a major part in this and that is being driven nationally and internationally from the EU."
