Irish hotels are experiencing a rise in requests for pet stays.

But some hoteliers have expressed concern over the vetting of pets, and the impact of animals on other hotel residents.

One in five people got a pet since the pandemic was declared, as per 2021 CSO figures.

Owner of Scholar's Townhouse and Peggy Moore's Pub in Drogheda, Glenn McGowan says hotels don't have the ability to evaluate behaviour and temperament:

"A few times people have brought dogs into the pub and the dog wasn't very well behaved or they weren't the best dog owners, that's another issue we have."

"So, how do you means test or analyse if a dog will be well behaved or not. It's hard enough to deal with customers in a pub, never mind if a dog is out of control.
