New research suggests one in 10 female gamers feel suicidal because of the abuse they face.

Almost half of 4 thousand women surveyed by Sky Broadband said they'd been mistreated or harassed when playing or streaming online.

Around a quarter admit to feeling depressed because of it - while a similar proportion are worried about being targeted in real life.

Elsewhere, the Taoiseach is attending GamerFest in Dublin today.

Leo Varadkar says the gaming industry in Ireland has gone from strength to strength in recent years and created many new jobs.

The event takes place at the RDS this weekend with new 'Industry Zone' exhibits on careers and education.

GamerFest CEO, Stuart Dempsey describes what's happening:

"At its heart GamerFest is a consumer show. So that is people passionate about gaming coming to play the latest games. We have Williams Formula 1 Esports here so people can try out the latest technology and stim racing rigs where they compete in a fastest lap challenge, driving a Formula 1 car on track.

He adds, "We also have the game publisher 2K Games. They have a multitude of titles and we have the brand new Lego 2K Drive to play at the event today as well."
