''We change our prices from time to time to reflect the significant investments we’ve made''.
Streaming service Netflix will be implementing a price rise for a host of European countries, including Ireland from today (June 20th).
The company said it's increasing the cost of its Standard and Premium plans to reflect the improvements it is continually making to the service.
Netflix said its new wave of interactive programmes as well as the smart downloads option are major factors in the decision to make a price rise.
The cost of Netflix’s Basic plan will remain unchanged, at €7.99 per month, but the cost of a Standard plan will increase by €1 to €11.99 per month and the cost of a Premium plan will increase by €2 to €15.99 per month.
The price increases will roll out to all new members immediately. Existing members will be notified by email, as well as within the Netflix app, a month before the new prices are applied to them.
Commenting on the price increase, a Netflix spokesperson said: “We change our prices from time to time to reflect the significant investments we’ve made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product.”
“Our basic membership will remain at the same price, ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy our content.”
