A great initiative.

There's no doubt that getting your leaving cert results is one of the most stressful experiences of your life, it's the final full stop on 14 years of hard work.

Sadly not everyone is going to be happy with their results, which is why it's great to see the The National Parents Council Post Primary is running a freephone (1800 265 165) and online service ([email protected]).

The service will provide Leaving Cert students and their parents/guardians with professional and confidential one-to-one support, advice and guidance, from experienced Guidance Counsellors.

And everything will be covered from dealing with topics such as the points system, rechecks, repeats, CAO procedures to further training options.

Joe McHugh Minister for Education and Skills, said: “It is an honour to be asked to help promote the great work of the National Parents Council Post Primary to make sure that young students have a place they can call for advice and someone to listen. If I had one simple message it’d be this – your exam results are only one step in what I hope will be a rewarding journey to a career and through life.”

Mai Fanning, NPCPP President, added: “Be proud of how far you’ve come. Have faith in how far you can go. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. But don’t forget to enjoy the journey.” Great advice! The leaving cert is important, but it's certainly not the be all and end all.

The number for the freephone helpline is: 1800 265165.

And it'll be in operation during these times and dates: Tuesday, August 13th, 10am – 7pm; Wednesday, August 14th, 10am – 7pm; Thursday, August 15th, 1 – 7pm; Friday, August 16th, 8am – 7pm; Saturday, August 17th, 9am – 1pm
