Post-Covid travel plans anyone?
The Japenese the government has launched a new campaign that will help offset travel costs for foreigners visiting the country.
The Japan Times reports that up to half of any tourists potential travel costs would be covered under the €11.2 billion plan.
While little detail of the program has been announced, the government says it could be in place as early as July (despite travel bans to Japan still in place).
It announced the news of the scheme on its Facebook page on Tuesday.
“Like many countries, (Japan) has taken a major hit with (tourism) numbers dropping by 99.9 per cent from April 2019 to April 2020,” the post reads.
“To counteract this and get Japan loved again the government has announced it is putting together a scheme - it could cover half your travel expenses on a trip to Japan.”
“Details are still being finalised but with the 2021 Tokyo Olympics planned for next summer, officials are keen to get the ball rolling as soon as possible once all well to do so.”
The announcement follows Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe lifting the state of emergency in Tokyo and four other areas where it was still in place.
To date, Japan has had only 16,433 infections and 784 deaths despite boasting a population of over 126 million people.
