But there's claims fake tan is contributing to racism and self-hate
Ireland has the highest per-capita use of tanning products in the world.
But is the Irish obsession with using fake tan reinforcing racism and self-hate?
That's what Irish Independent columnist Joy Tendai Kengere believes.
She thinks darker skin from a bottle is seen as superior compared to natural dark skin and that all skin colours need to be loved and appreciated.
The journalist says young Irish girls are learning that they're not good enough without a tan.
"It is just the view in which we are comparing two things, one thing darker skin being bought in a bottle or that is found by tanning machines is found more superior or glorified than one that comes more naturally to the people who have dark skin".
