And why it's not good to sleep too quickly.

So you've probably clicked into this to just see how "normal" you are.

Or you're tossing and turning right now, scrolling endlessly on the phone and all of a sudden it's 3:47am and your alarm is set for 7:30...

Uh Oh...

But how long should it actually take you to fall asleep??

According to many a sleep expert, anything between 5-20 minutes is quite normal.

And the message here is that it's apparently actually bad for you to fall asleep any quicker than 5 mins!

Who'd have thought?!

According to PureWow, the amount of time required to fall asleep is known as SOL or sleep onset latency.

And expert Dr W. Chris Winter says that falling asleep instantaneously isn't "necessarily healthy".

Dr. W. Chris Winter, MD is president of Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine and author of The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep Is Broken and How to Fix It.

He added that "taking a little bit to fall asleep is perfectly fine."

Basically, the theory is that if you fall asleep too quickly, it's a sign that you're not getting enough sleep!

And what to do if you can't sleep?

If you're struggling after 20 minutes, it's recommended to get up and do something like read in a dimly lit room.

Stay away from the phone though - the screens are not your sleep friend!

Another thing you can do is try meditate - there are lots of apps out there to help with that.

Also, keep the temperature cool and chill.
