Because let's face it, us Irish are not experts when it comes to heat!
So, it's been really hot recently, which is absolutely fantastic.
But, it can make things really uncomfortable at night time when you're trying to get to sleep.
And with heatwaves being very rare here in Ireland, we are just not used to having this problem!
So, we've collected a few tips to try if you find yourself awake on those warm and humid nights.
No cold shower, just dip the feet instead.
You may think a cold shower would be the obvious answer, but apparently not!
A cold shower can actually raise your body temperature, so instead go for a tepid one.
And then try soak your feet in cold water.
Doing this before you head to bed can help to cool your entire body down.
The water will cool the pulse points on your feet and ankles, instantly helping you to feel a little more sane before sleeping.
Rice a sock
Okay you're probably thinking, what??!
But don't knock it until you try it!
Fill up an old sock with raw rice, tie it with an elastic band at the end and pop in the freezer for a few hours.
Then take it to bed with you and use it on your face and neck to cool you down!
Keep your feet and hands uncovered
A no-brainer really.
It can really go a long way for cooling down to keep your feet and hands outside of the covers.
After all, heat should escape our bodies at the ends right?
Sleepwear
Science says that light, thin materials like cotton aids sleep in the heat.
These types of materials draw sweat away from your body while still letting your skin breathe.
So, it's actually recommended over sleeping naked!
And finally, close the curtains earlier.
Shade is pretty much vital for cooling down.
So if you actually try close windows, curtains and blinds during the hottest parts of the day, it'll really help.
It'll lower the room temperature by a lot!
