Are we surprised?
When lockdown hit in March 2020, we all had a lot more time on our hands.
So, many of us turned to the kitchen to keep us occupied.
And thus began the obsession with banana bread.
Come on, we all did it, or know someone who did.
But we definitely didn't know how to do it... so we turned to Google.
Well, we now have proof of that banana bread bananza according to stats from Google search.
BirdsEye decided to have a look at the UK data to find out what recipes were the most searched for in recent years.
They found that after the booming success it enjoyed during lockdown, banana bread is one of the most popular recipes.
It had an average of 135,000 searches monthly since 2017, and 4,274,000 searches in 2020 alone!
But it still hasn't surpassed some pre-pandemic favourites.
It trails behind recipe searches for pancakes, and fish and chips.
According to BirdsEye, people searched for a simple pancake recipe up to 368,000 times a month over the past four years.
But in 2021, that number rose to 522,000 searches on average.
Other pandemic booms include ‘simple chicken breast recipes for dinner’, which saw a 4,900% increase in searches between this year and last, and ‘chicken pasta recipes for dinner’ which is up by 1,106%.
The study also found that chicken is a clear favourite, as 43% of people search for chicken recipes the most.
That's followed by pasta recipes at 32%, and curries at 31%. C
While chicken curry, fajitas and carbonara are among the online favourites, with an average of 49,500 recipe searches each since 2017.
