The majority of people feel influencers are misrepresenting real life.

The Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland is coming up with new guidelines for advertising - particularly on social media.

Research carried out by the body showed 63 percent are concerned influencers aren't coming across as authentic.

Orla Twomey is CEO of the ASAI - she says advertising needs to be labelled:

"If they are advertising it must be disclosed in a clear way so that consumers, when they're looking at it, know immediately that they're engaging with advertising."

"These rules are not just for social media influencers, they go across all advertising. Consumers have to know when they're being advertised to."
