One in three people say they're just about getting by financially.
While just over 12 per cent say they'd only be able to cover costs for a month if they were hit by an 'income shock'.
A study of 15 hundred people carried out by the Competition Consumer and Protection Commission has found Ireland's wealth gap has widened.
The Commission also says it's concerned at how Ireland's wealth gap has widened.
Homeless campaigner Fr.Peter McVerry says the situation is much more serious in some areas:
"Now I live in an area with a lot of low income families and I would say many of them couldn't even get through three days if there was an income shock, if their welfare was withdrawn for example."
"The requests I get to be honest are two euro for the bus into town I get a request for three four euros to get a prescription out of the chemist."
