''They’re not interested in one night stands''.

Single Irish farmers are flocking to a dating agency 'Intro' to find love this Christmas.

And the match-making specialists say that rural men are not interested in a fling - they are looking for a long term partner.

A large number of farmers from Galway, Cork, Donegal and Kerry are looking to find a wife who is hard-working but insist that she must be easy-going.

Lisa Woods, 33, from Co Louth is a matchmaker at Intro and she told the Irish Mirror: ''The biggest problem is that there is a lack of opportunity and everyone knows one another in rural towns.

“We’ve a big pool of farmers from Galway,Cork,Donegal and Kerry looking to meet women who are hardworking and easy going.

“Farmers are definitely modernising and don’t expect to meet someone who will move to the farm or be a housewife anymore.

''In fairness they are brave and are open to travelling to meet someone, which for a lot of them is out of their comfort zone''.

Farmers in their 20s are the most likely to use to the service, but there are also widows as old as 70 looking for love through Intro.

She said: ''They’re not interested in one night stands and a lot of them aren’t on social media so they want to give this a go.

''We had a farmer from Offaly who we matched with a woman living in Dublin and they ended up getting married and moved halfway to Kildare where they could both commute to do their job''.
