For thousands of years dogs have been humankind's best friends, and in 2019 dogs are now more than ever a key part of the family unit.
So if you're considering adding a loyal pooch to your household dynamic, a new study has revealed the most popular names for dogs from the year just gone.
The survey, conducted by Rover.com, found that names which haven't really seen the light of day for decades, like Gertrude receiving a 300 per cent rise in popularity.
Other surprises include a surge in the names Simba and Nala, obviously influenced by Disney's remake of the Lion King.
Even Love Island made an impact, with the name Anna seeing a 450 per cent increase in popularity, while Anton increased 200 per cent and India by 180 per cent.

“Dogs are considered fully-fledged members of the family by nine out of ten pet parents in the UK, so choosing a name for our canines can be as difficult as it is for our children," Kate Jaffe, Trend Expert for Rover, said.
“Our dogs and the names we give them are part of our self-expression, everything from favourite foods to small screen stars.”
