Dating apps could be part of the reason for a rise in sexually transmitted infections, according to an expert.
New figures from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre found STIs have risen by 76 percent so far in 2023 compared to the same period last year
Over 3,200 cases have been recorded in the first seven weeks of this year, with Chlamydia, gonorrhoea and genital herpes the most common infections.
STI specialist Dr Derek Freedman says coming out of restrictions and more testing could be leading to the rise - as well as dating apps:
"The dating apps facilitate meeting people very quickly. I often say to people using dating apps; 'no sex the first night'. Get to know the person first and look for quality in your sex life rather than just a quick bang."
