A new survey of offices in the UK has identified what people find most annoying about their co-workers.

Vanquis, who carried out the study, say that in many cases an office worker see's their colleagues more than their family. As a result, it's no surprise that in no time at all, we begin to realise what habits really get on our nerves about the people who we share our working day with.

After the success of TV shows like The Office (UK and US), the study was launched to find out what makes UK workers tick, and what ticks them off!

Topping the list was a big one - Food Hygiene! 85% of people said that it bothers them when rotten food is left in the fridge or kitchen area.

Here's a breakdown of what people found most annoying about their co-workers in the work place:

1. Leaving rotten food in the fridge or kitchen – 85%

2. Leaving a mess in the kitchen, bathroom or other communal areas – 83%

3. Using discriminatory or rude language (i.e. swearing, racism, sexism) – 81%

4. Leaving passive-aggressive notes in a communal area – 74%

5. Playing loud music on their work computer – 74%

6. Changing the settings on the heating/air con - 67%

7. Cooking smelly food in the office kitchen – 66%

8. Someone getting promoted over them – 61%
