The research was conducted by John Jerrim, Phil Parker and Nikki Shure in an aptly named paper called - "Bullsh*tters. Who Are They and What Do We Know about Their Lives?" Better than our thesis!
Method: 40K students in 9 English speaking countries, answering a large survey taken every 3 years.
They asked the students to rate their knowledge of 16 mathematical concepts, 3 of which were fake. Fun.

"Everyone knows a bullshitter but there's been very little work done on them," said John Jerrim, who led the study at UCL's Institute of Education.
"Who bullshits, and the psychological traits they share, are important questions to answer."
The group looked at the bullsh*tting capabilities of 15 year-olds from regions including the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
Their paper found that participants in Ireland were least likely to be shite-talkers:
"Young people in North America are found to be bigger bullshitters than young people in England, Australia and New Zealand, while those in Ireland and Scotland are the least likely to exaggerate".
Who was most full of bullshit? Higher scores here mean 'more bullshit' (claiming knowledge and expertise in literally fictional areas of mathematics):

"Boys are bigger bullshitters than girls, children from higher socioeconomic backgrounds tend to bullshit more than those from lower ones, and North Americans bullshit the most" Jerrim added.
Those people who ranked highest on the scale also saw themselves as more self-confident, more persevering, and more popular at school than the non-bullsh*tters. Sounds familiar.
