The Mirror reports 62% of people surveyed say rom-coms help with the healing process by providing escapism and getting you laughing again.
Among the people surveyed 28% say they have been involved in a rom-com-like romance and 1 in 10 these films have changed their expectations on relationships.
Julia Foye, spokesperson for Costa, which commissioned the research, says: “Clearly, watching rom-coms where the main characters move on can help people heal.
“Our research has shown that these films can have a real positive impact and not only be relatable but put a smile on faces too."
