GARDAÍ are advising students to practice“streetwise” behavior during 'Donegal Tuesday' in Galway today.
Today marks the day where thousands of students descend on the The Hole in The Wall pub in Galway City, to celebrate one of Ireland's most beloved counties. Donegal.
Known as Donegal Tuesday, the celebration is a part of the unofficial 'Rag Week' celebrations in Galway.
The day see's thousands of Students dress up in Donegal colours and converge in the city centre.
However, both NUI Galway and GMIT (Galway Mayo Institute of Technology) have distanced themselves from the event in recent years, after a string of arrests stemming from anti-social behavior occurred.
An Garda Síochána are advising students to plan ahead and be “streetwise” ahead of Galway city’s “unofficial” Rag Week.
Streetwise behaviour includes:
- Know your limit & plan ahead.
- Eat food before and while you drink.
- Sip your drink (slow down).
- Skip a drink now and then and substitute with a non-alcoholic drink
- Beware of unfamiliar drinks.
- And Spacing your drinks.
