14 dogs are to be trained as a feasibility study
Researchers in Australia are attempting to train sniffer dogs to detect Covid-19.
14 dogs in Adelaide and at the Australian Border Force’s National Detector Dog Programme Facility are involved in the programme
Studies have shown that dogs can smell particular odours that humans produce when suffering from viral infections.
Dr Anne-Lise Chaber of the University of Adelaide’s School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences said the current training will test the dog's accuracy using sweat samples from Covid patients.
If it proves successful, it's hoped the dogs could be used at airports and borders to screen people entering the country.
