Thousands of women have shed their inhibitions and braved the cool waters off Magheramore beach in Co. Wicklow for a world-record setting “skinny dip” to raise funds for a children’s cancer charity.

Now in its sixth year, the Strip and Dip was organised by Dee Featherstone who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and decided to schedule a charity skinny dip on a Co. Wicklow beach six weeks after her mastectomy.

Lucia Sinigagliesi, the Guinness World Records official that adjudicated the naked swim on Saturday, said that 2,505 women spent at least five minutes in the sea to set a new world record.

The previous record was set in Western Australia in 2015 when 786 participants swam naked near Perth.

Over 20,000 euro was raised on the morning and to date the charity has raised €153,000 for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, a children’s cancer charity.
