How do you make the perfect cuppa?!
We all like to think we're experts at brewing tea, we're Irish after all, but it turns out we've been doing it all wrong.
A former royal butler (he knows a thing or two about making tea) says there's a particular way to brew a cup worthy of royalty.
Grant Harrold was a member of the household of the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall between 2005 and 2011.
He says there are four steps to the perfect cuppa:
1. Pour the tea into the cup from a teapot
2. Add milk to the cup after the tea, never before
3. Stir back and forth — never use a circular motion and never touch the sides
4. Sip from the cup, do not slurp!
It all sounds pretty standard but step three is causing a few raised eyebrows. We've been stirring our tea the wrong way! Who knew?!
Speaking to the Independent UK, Grant says:
"If we stir in a circular motion we can create a storm in a tea cup and see the tea coming over the sides which we should never allow."
"If the spoon touches the sides it makes a clinging sound and we don't want that at the afternoon tea table."
Well, that's us told!
