Officials in the US state of Kansas have dealt a blow to dogs everywhere, after they ruled that a pooch will not be allowed run for governor.
Angus was entered in the race by his owner Terran Woolley, as Kansas doesn't have any requirements determining who can run for the office.
Terran was actually inspired by six teenagers who have their announced candidacy, after learning that there’s no age requirement for the job.
Speaking to The Kansas City Star, director of elections for the Kansas Secretary of State’s office, Bryan Caskey said:
"Officially, we will not allow a dog to run for governor. There’s several laws that reference that the governor has to be an individual or a person, and so we are relying on that, and if a dog comes in to file for office, we will not allow that."
Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, a Republican, is also running for governor in 2018.
Terran's joked bout a possible ulterior motive for Kobach’s office.
"I feel that maybe the Secretary of State is scared of facing him in the primary or in the general election, I guess, since Angus is a Democrat."
