Despite much progress being made regarding gender roles in society, it's evident that there is still much, much more to be done.
We all know that baby changing facilities are typically housed in the female bathrooms in public places, with this arguably highlighting the deeply ingrained view of gender roles in society that we are trying to erode.
In many ways, it seems we have a long way to go before both women and men and seen equally as parents.
There are naturally plenty of Dads and gay couples raising their kids - but why aren't baby changing facilities, for example, available in most men's spaces? (eg, men's public bathrooms.)
This frustrated Dad-of-three Donte Palmer has had enough and posted a photo of he and his son on Instagram writing:
"This is a serious post!!! What’s the deal with not having changing tables in men’s bathroom as if we don’t exist!! #FLM #fatherslivesmatter clearly we do this often because look how comfortable my son is. It’s routine to him!!!!
Let’s fix this problem! I Kaepernick drop a knee to this issue! @theshaderoom let’s show the innovation of fathers!"
The post has garnered thousand of likes and has generated important discussion about this topic too.
Palmer spoke to Yahoo Lifestyle following the viral post, saying “People have commented that my wife is ‘lazy’ for not changing our baby’s diaper or that I could have changed him in the car but why should I?”
“Many fathers are present caretakers but either we don’t get recognition or get too much credit for doing basic tasks.. Why should I have to lay my son across my legs? That’s not cool", he added.
