The World Cup kicks off today and Garry and Fionnuala are talking all things football on The Lift.

They've chosen their top three moments from past tournaments.

Robbie Keane's goal against Germany in 2002

Sixteen years ago, Robbie Keane scored THAT goal against Germany in the 2002 World Cup.

Everyone remembers where they were when the striker netted the injury-time leveller, and Keane has described it as "the moment that changed my life".

After battling with Germany for 91 minutes, it looked like the boys in green were going to leave the Kashima Soccer Stadium in Japan empty-handed.

But Keane got on the end of a Niall Quinn flick to power the ball past German goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, earning a precious point for Ireland.

Zinedine Zidane's headbutt in 2006

The 2006 World Cup final between France and Italy was shook by a violent incident.

With the teams locked at 1-1 in extra time, France's Zinedine Zidane lost it and and head-butted Italian defender Marco Materazzi following a verbal exchange.

Zidane was shown the red card and Italy went on to win the competition in a penalty shootout.

It turned out that Zidane’s moment of madness was in reponse to an insult about his sister.

John Aldridge losing it in 1994

Ireland were 2-0 down against Mexico in the sweltering Orlando heat and John Aldridge was waiting to come on as a substitute.

However, the striker was delayed by an official and he didn't take it too well.

Aldridge launched into an expletive-laden rant that was captured on camera for the world to see.

When he was finally let on, he scored Ireland’s only goal of the 2-1 defeat.
