Breath tests are being recommended for teenage discos to minimise underage drinking.
A judge in Cork has called for young people to be randomly breath tested before entering discos.
The Irish Examiner reports that Judge James McNulty made the proposals on foot of three venues in Cork seeking new licenses to hold such events.
The paper says the judge is concerned after a number of incidents this year, including one at Bandon Rugby Club where a "field hospital" had to be set up to deal with drunk teenagers.
He also recommended that parents be made sign up to a parental responsibility charter when buying event tickets.
Judge McNulty's proposals, which must be considered by the applicants ahead of any granting of licences, includes that they acquire breathalysers and carry out random testing before entry, alongside the use of CCTV systems.
